About 1500 teachers of Delhi University have written today to the President of the DUTA seeking a meeting of the DUTA General Body to discuss and decide course of action on the MHRD notification with regard to teachers’ pay revision. The text of the requisition is as follows:
At the last DUTA General Body meeting held on 12 December 2008, it was resolved that the General Body would meet once again after the issue of the MHRD notification to discuss the provisions laid down by the Government for teachers’ pay revision and to decide on the course of action if our demands are not fulfilled. In view of the fact that no meeting has been convened despite requests made to the DUTA President [see here], teachers are left with no option but to requisition a meeting.
The DTF expresses grave concern over the MHRD notification with regard to pay revision of university and college teachers. After severe criticism of the downgrading of teachers in the proposals announced by the MHRD in the Parliament on 16 December 2006, the Government has only conceded to placement of incumbent Readers in PB4 with a Grade Pay of 9000 after completion of three years of service as Reader. On the rest, the notification reiterates the Parliament announcement and further introduces additional conditions to be specified by the UGC for promotion.
