DTF members meet VC on Internal Assessment and DCE
A delegation of the elected AC and EC members of the DTF including Rajib Ray, Abha Dev Habib and Vijaya Venkataraman met the Vice-Chancellor on 31 August 2009 to demand inclusion of elected AC members in the Committee set up to review the Internal Assessment System. The DTF members pointed out that since the matter was a serious academic issue of widespread concern among teachers, the committee should include elected representatives and its recommendations should be thoroughly debated in the Academic Council. The Vice-Chancellor agreed to look into the matter and do the needful. In the meeting of the aforesaid Committee today, Rajib Ray reiterated the demand for inclusion of AC members.
The DTF members also raised the issue of the conversion of the Delhi College of Engineering to the Delhi Technological University. They pressed upon the Vice-Chancellor to immediately write to the MHRD and Visitor about the illegal manner in which institution has been taken away from Delhi University without its consent and to take initiate legal proceeding against the conversion.
It is indeed good news that the VC has agreed to examine the working of the internal assessment system. Views of the various departments in colleges should also be asked for by the committee as each dept has its own kind of problems. A general resolution from a Staff Association will probably not be adequate. This may take time but what will finally come out will be a decision which has been based on the information from all concerned.
