On misleading campaign about consequences of constituent status for DCE

The DTF had earlier expressed its opposition to the decision by the Cabinet of the Govt. of NCT of  Delhi to convert Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) to Delhi Technological University on grounds of it being a high-handed, arbitrary, undemocratic and academically undesirable decision. It had supported the Teachers’ Association of DCE which had asked for changing the status of the College to a constituent college of the University of Delhi like the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS).

It seeks to bring to the notice of all that there are motivated attempts to mislead people over the constituent college status for DCE. It is being wrongly presented that if DCE were to be made a constituent college of the University of Delhi, the present provision for seat reservation for students whose domicile is Delhi would not remain. The fact is that in the case of UCMS, a constituent college, admissions are made on the basis of Delhi University Medical Entrance Test (DUMET). The eligibility criteria for this test takes into account the domicile issue. The DTF appeals to the the Government and the Assembly of the NCT of Delhi not to admit such rumours while deciding the case of DCE.
