The AIFUCTO had submitted a representation to the MHRD on 5 January in response to the MHRD Pay Notification issued on 31 December 2008. On 23 February, the AIFUCTO held a Dharna and March to Parliament and submitted a representation to the UGC Chairman in response to the Draft UGC notification issued on 15 February. In this connection, the AIFUCTO has issued the following press statement regarding their discussions with the UGC Chairman:

The AIFUCTO leadership held discussions with Prof. SK Thorat, Chairman UGC in the evening. The UGC assured them that the notification on the new Pay Scales will be issued immediately and that regulations will be finalized only after detailed consultations with the teachers’ organizations.
