The DTF expresses a sense of great loss at the passing of Habib Tanvir, eminent theatre legend, who wrote, directed, created and activised a theatre tradition that used popular folk forms to articulate innovatively the everyday struggles of ordinary people. Drawing inspiration from his early association with the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) and the Progressive Writers’ Association (PWA), Habib Tanvir remained committed throughout his life to the democratic aspirations of the common people, not shying away from political attacks or personal struggle. The DTF salutes this charming and lovable figure and hopes that his ideas, energy and dedication to the cause of a popular theatre will continue to inspire people in and outside theatre.
His creative inspiration will show the way to coming generations.
